Abstract: Ladakh, also known as 'the Land of Passes', has always been a significant and most important part of the Indian territory. Its strategic location has always distinguished it from other states of the country. Earlier the territory of Ladakh was part of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir. The region enjoyed special provisions acknowledged under Article 370. The government of India in its landmark decision revoked Article-370 and the State was divided into the Union Territories of Ladakh and Jammu & Kashmir. This new alteration has resulted in the positive evolution of the territory. Thus the paper will explore the strateg significance of the region and the advancements taking place. The focus of my paper will be to explore the ongoing development in the region with special emphasis on the transitions taking place after the abrogation of Article 370 and the creation of Ladakh as a separate Union Territory. The economic, industrial, educational, infrastructural, energy and tourism developments in the region will be covered. The paper will also focus on the newly launched government schemes and projects. Emphasis will be on the influential projects for the all-round development of the Union Territory.
