Structural transformation of India’s foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Author(s): Lalmuana Guite

Abstract: After the 2014 Lok Sabha election, many had casted their doubt about Prime Minister Modi’s capability on foreign policy. However, in no time, the world had witnessed a significant transformation on how India engaged itself with nations around the world at the international arena. Under the watchful eyes of the NDA 2.0 Government there is continuity in policy and changes in the vigor with which its foreign policy is being pursued. The transition of India’s position from ‘South Centric’ dogma to the ‘South West power’ alignment has represented one of the most important developments in recent times. The retainment of its long-standing policy of neutrality, non-alignment, and fence-sitting strategy during the current international crisis, such as the Russia-Ukraine war, Israel-Palestine war, and the nearby Myanmar Civil War, also indicates India’s foreign policy had witnessed a certain level of continuity during the past decades. This article will highlight the significant transformation of India’s foreign policy under the leadership of Prime Minister Naredra Modi while keeping importance to the continuity and changes adopted by the present Government.
