A study of the impact of us withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 ON India

Author(s): Anil Malviya and Deepika Gupta

Abstract: The withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan in August 2021 marked a significant shift in the geopolitical landscape of south Asia. It directly affected India’s security, diplomatic strategies, and regional influence. This paper explores the immediate and long-term consequences of the US withdrawal for India. It also studies India’s evolving diplomatic approach and recalibration of its foreign policy focusing on how the power vacuum in Afghanistan impacts its interests and its attempts to engage with Taliban-led government and other key players. Ultimately it analyses India’s critical role in shaping the future of Afghanistan and ensuring regional stability.
