Analysing the impact of nationalism on India’s socio-political landscape
Author(s): Azad Rahaman
Abstract: Nationalism has played a crucial role in shaping India’s socio-political landscape, influencing its historical movements, governance structures, and public consciousness. From the colonial era, where nationalism fuelled the struggle for independence, to its post-independence impact on political ideologies, governance, and national identity, its effects have been profound. The rise of nationalism in India has contributed to the consolidation of democratic institutions, policy-making, and social cohesion, yet it has also led to political polarization, communal tensions, and challenges to secularism. The interplay between nationalism and socio-political factors continues to evolve, affecting economic policies, inter-community relations, and India's global positioning. This study explores the historical roots, evolution, and contemporary implications of nationalism in India’s socio-political framework, analysing its role in uniting the nation while also addressing its complexities and contradictions.
