Abstract: This paper examines the multifaceted impact of emerging technologies on women’s empowerment in India, focusing on three critical intersections: reproductive technologies and surrogacy, artificial intelligence, and online gender-based violence. While technological advancements have created avenues for enhanced healthcare, economic participation, and digital inclusion, they also expose persistent vulnerabilities rooted in structural inequalities. The study highlights how commercial surrogacy once offered marginalized women economic opportunities but simultaneously entrenched exploitation and ethical dilemmas, leading to restrictive legal reforms. Similarly, the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence carries the promise of improving service delivery and livelihood creation but raises concerns over job displacement, algorithmic bias, and gendered exclusion. The proliferation of cyberviolence further demonstrates how digital spaces can constrain women’s agency, despite their potential for empowerment. Drawing on legal frameworks, policy initiatives, and grassroots interventions, the paper underscores the need for a gender-sensitive governance approach that balances innovation with ethical safeguards. It argues that sustainable empowerment requires embedding inclusion, accountability, and equity into the design and deployment of emerging technologies to ensure that they advance rather than undermine women’s rights in India.
