Refugees, migrants and conflict: Illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in India

Author(s): Prasanta Sahoo

Abstract: Refugees, illegal migrants, and conflicts are closely linked issues, one of the world’s most complex, controversial, yet sensitive, humanitarian and security-loaded issues of the time. India is facing millions of refugees and migrants pouring into India every day, which is impinging upon its national security. India has been hosting millions of refugees for thousands of years on its soil for a variety of reasons, who are mainly from the neighbourhood and belong to Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, Tamils, Nepalese, Jews, Zoroastrians, etc. Though refugees are the victims of Conflicts, they are the cause of Social Conflict in the Host Country too, which is well proven from the Indian case. The illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas from Myanmar are highly impinging upon our national security. According to our intelligence agencies, they are involved in several kinds of anti-national activities, from smuggling to terrorism. India is in a great dilemma, whether to act on them or take them as a humanitarian issue.
