Poverty in India is the result of multiplicity of factors such as population explosion, unemployment, under employment, low level of wages, low asset base, low educational standards, inequalities in income, under development, agrarian structure, low productivity of labour, unsatisfactory growth, high incidence of rural indebtedness, social factors religious factors and political factors. Poverty alleviation is one of the prime objectives of planned economic development in India.
